Top Honors for Professor Dan Peer

Professor Dan Peer, Vice President of Research & Development for TAU, has been elected as a Fellow of the United States National Academy of Inventors (NAI), the highest recognition given by the Academy, which includes 1,850 Fellows in 260 different institutions around the world. The honor is given to innovators whose inventions have had a decisive impact on quality of life, economic development, and social welfare. READ MORE


Rare Discovery in the Study of Prehistoric Humans

A team of archeologists has unearthed a rare prehistoric ritual complex in the darkest depths of Manot Cave in the Western Galilee, Israel, a global breakthrough that sheds light on the role of ritual centers in the evolution of human society. According to TAU Professor Israel Hershkovitz, the ritual complex symbolizes the transition from unstructured worship to institutionalized public rituals. The complex is enclosed naturally by impressive stalagmites that create a distinctive entrance to the site and features a unique and impressive rock with geometric engravings resembling a turtle shell. Smartphones and Weather

Professor Colin Price of TAU's Porter School of the Environment and Earth Studies has found that the smartphones we all carry in our pockets could help collect weather data from the public to provide early warnings for wildfires and other extreme weather conditions. "Better early warnings could prevent natural hazards from becoming natural disasters," he says. READ MORE


Future Treatments for Neurological Diseases

A team led by Professor Abdussalam Azem, Dean of the George S. Wise Faculty of Life Sciences, has developed an innovative research model that allowed it to decode the mechanism underlying a severe and rare neurological disease characterized by symptoms such as epilepsy, developmental delay, and intellectual disability. He says the breakthrough offers hope for new drug developments and highlights the power of understanding cellular processes to drive medical breakthroughs. READ MORE

IN MEMORIAM

Nir Giladi

AFTAU mourns the recent death of Professor Nir Giladi, a senior faculty member in the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery at the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences and at the Purple School of Brain Sciences at TAU. A pioneer in Parkinson's care, Professor Nir was an integral part of the Sagol School of Neuroscience community, contributed greatly to his peers, and was a dedicated educator to many generations of students.
