Unicorns Among Us

Tel Aviv University ranks first in Israel and first in the world outside the US in the number of unicorn startups established by its alumni, according to a new study from Stanford University. TAU alums have been responsible for founding 43 privately-held startup companies valued at over US$1 billion. And there’ll be more: most students at TAU can now include an entrepreneurship cluster as an integral part of their degree studies. READ MORE

Early Warning for Breast Cancer

Researchers at TAU have developed a computational model that makes it possible to predict an individual woman’s risk of developing breast cancer based on her genetic profile. They say that their method will allow health systems to develop a personalized early detection policy, when those who are identified as being at high risk will be tested more frequently and from a younger age, saving lives and health system resources. Our first impressions of strangers can be affected by our anticipated future interactions with them, says a new TAU study. The desire to cultivate strong friendships with people around us can lead us to attribute positive physical traits like attractive appearances, pleasant scents, and agreeable voices even to complete strangers we have never encountered before. TAU’s Center for Innovation in Teaching & Learning has developed and modified over 400 University courses — more than any other university in the world —to create a variety of more active, accessible, and effective learning experiences. Among these are several publicly available online courses hosted by the prestigious course provider edX and a fully-online MBA produced in partnership with Wiley, an esteemed international academic publisher. The Israel Film Festival will honor TAU alum and Mattel Chairman and CEO Ynon Kreiz with its 2023 IFF Industry Leadership Award at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills on November 1. Barbie's boss graduated with a BA in Economics and Management from TAU. READ MORE
