Super Seaweed

Seaweed, in its natural state and habitat, is a superfood with health, medicinal, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic benefits. A new technology from TAU researchers has succeeded in significantly increasing the ability of seaweed to produce healthy natural compounds and medicine from the sea. The new technique has the potential to be applied in the global seaweed aquaculture industry and help promote Israel as a leading power in seaweed biotechnology. READ MORE

 

Killing Deadly Bacteria

Researchers from Professor Dan Peer's lab and The Israel Institute for Biological Research have developed the world's first mRNA vaccine that is 100% effective against a bacteria that is lethal to humans. The single dose vaccine gives researchers hope on rapidly adapting the vaccine technology for other diseases, including those caused by antibiotic-resistant bacteria. READ MORE

 

Pure Oxygen

Relief from fibromyalgia and the chronic pain it causes can be achieved through hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), according to a study led by Professor Shai Efrati of the Faculty of Medicine and Sagol Center for Hyperbaric Medicine and Research. Findings show that HBOT is much more effective in reducing pain than the drug treatment for patients with fibromyalgia as a result of a traumatic brain injury. The experiment resulted in the healing of 40% of the patients studied. READ MORE

 

SPARK Award

Dr. Lior Mayo, whose research has found a method to eradicate deadly brain tumors by starving them of an energy source, has been awarded a grant to participate in SPARK TEL AVIV, a unique partnership between TAU and industry experts. The goal is to accelerate inventions into clinical reality and to translate laboratory discoveries into practical drugs that address unmet medical needs. READ MORE and WATCH THE VIDEO
