Letter from Our CEO

July 1, 2022

Dear Friends,

At long last summer is here. It's a new month, a new season, and there are many exciting developments and achievements coming out of Tel Aviv University (TAU) that I am excited to share with you.

It is with great pleasure that I congratulate Professor Karen Avraham on being elected as the new Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Tel Aviv University. Karen is the first female dean of the Faculty. She is a powerhouse in her field of genetics and has big plans for the Faculty of Medicine. I know that under Karen's leadership we will continue to hear about incredible breakthroughs in medicine and research which I look forward to sharing with you.

A new study that was done in Professor Adi Stern's lab revealed that patients who are immunocompromised are at a higher risk for the COVID virus because their bodies are incubators for the next formation of variants. The study highlights the importance of protecting these individuals and opens the door for further research to discover the origins of the various variants.

Cyber Week 2022, one of the leading cybersecurity events worldwide, was held on campus this past week. Sponsored by the Blavatnik Interdisciplinary Cyber Research Center, Tel Aviv University, the Israeli National Cyber Directorate under the Prime Minister's Office and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Yuval Ne'eman Workshop for Science, Technology and Security, this gathering includes industry leaders, startups, investors, academics, diplomats, and government officials. To learn more about Israel's "national Cyber Dome" and the new cyber threats and innovative solutions, you can view the sessions here.

The Buchmann–Mehta School of Music (BMSM) recently launched a master-class website showcasing world-class musicians teaching students at the School. BMSM is world-renowned for its partnership with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and its many notable alumni, including Itzhak Perlman, Lahav Shani, and Boris Giltburg.

From medicine and cyber to arts and music, Tel Aviv University shines, and it is my good fortune to be able to share the bright light with you. Thank you for your support and interest in TAU. Your partnership enables this multi-disciplinary university to have a worldwide impact.

Wishing you a safe and enjoyable Fourth of July weekend.

Shabbat shalom.
