Alumni News

January 2024

Dear Friends,

It has been more than 100 days since the brutal attack on our homeland. It is difficult to move forward while there are still hostages being held in Gaza, while the war continues, and so many soldiers — including over 6,000 Tel Aviv University (TAU) students — have been called up and still fight in the front lines.

For your consideration, TAU has just launched the "Uniform to University Scholarship Campaign" to provide academic and financial assistance to returning reservists. As the country sets about rebuilding, we know that our students are Israel’s future leaders and creators. We can provide the financial assistance to help students transition back to their studies and resume their career paths. You can make a donation to this fund today by clicking here.

I am pleased to share that thanks to your generosity, Tel Aviv University has opened the emergency National PTSD Clinic in response to the enormous number of cases of PTSD and trauma following the war. Operated by TAU's National Center for Traumatic Stress and Resilience, the goal of the newly opened clinic is to treat a minimum of 1,000 patients this year. Priority will be given to adults and reserve soldiers and additional programs and services will be added over time.

We are proud of our nationwide alumni community, for continuing to be the best ambassadors to TAU in part and Israel at large. Here are a few of the MANY stories of alumni who spread a shining light during these dark times:

  • Dr. Cory Harow, a Florida ER Doctor who was vacationing in Israel on October 7th with his family when war broke out. He remained in Israel to provide emergency medical care — treating wounded soldiers.
  • Sophia Shramko, an Israeli Arab, TAU and Stanford graduate who actively involved in Israeli advocacy and fights against antisemitism across the US.
  • David Kaufman, the New York Post columnist and features editor and frequent commentator, using his platform to speak the truth and advocate for Israel.
